Long Beach's Musical Theater West has had the great good fortune of
getting the first regional rights to produce the still Off-Broadway running, still
National-touring pop rock treat Altar Boyz. Having recently seen and loved
the excellent touring production (directed/choreographed/designed by the
New York team), I can attest that MTW's staging equals and even surpasses
the original.

Credit director-choreographer Troy Magino for taking the best of the original
vision and adding his own inspiration. This is an Altar Boyz redesigned to fill
the huge Carpenter Center stage, in brilliant Technicolor hues, with two
giant video screens hanging stage left and right projecting image after
image to "enhance your enjoyment" of the show including the VH1 ready
video of The Calling featuring the MTW cast (which you can also see on my
myspace page by way of preview).

The five boyz (Danny Calvert and James Royce Edwards, who've performed
it Off Broadway, along with Dan Domench, Tyler McGee, and Dan Pacheco)
are perfection, and they reached this lofty high after scarcely a week of
rehearsals. These are five triple threats with long and rich futures in the biz.
